The Parliament has approved the appointment of Aishath Asna Hamdi as Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) with a majority of 73 votes.

Asna was nominated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu last month to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former Deputy Governor Ahmed Imaadh Latheef, who stepped down after an impeachment motion was filed against him in Parliament.

Currently serving as Managing Director at the MMA, Asna heads the Finance Sector Development (FSD) department and brings over two decades of experience in the financial sector. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of East London and a Master's degree in Business Finance from the University of Nottingham.
