The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has called upon members of the Hajj Mission to ensure that Maldivian pilgrims receive full and dedicated service during this year’s pilgrimage.
His remarks were delivered during a meeting held at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, where he addressed the mission’s responsibilities.
During the session, the Minister emphasised the importance of the Hajj Mission fulfilling its duties to the highest possible standard. He underscored the need for diligence and attentiveness in supporting the pilgrims, highlighting that the wellbeing and satisfaction of the pilgrims must remain a top priority.
Dr Shaheem also urged the Government to collaborate closely with pilgrims to address any challenges they may encounter. He stressed that a coordinated and responsive approach is essential to resolving issues in a timely and effective manner.
As part of efforts to enhance the Hajj and Umrah system in the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu affirmed the Administration’s commitment to making the process more efficient and accessible.
In line with these developments, the Saudi government has agreed to include the Maldives in the Mecca Route Initiative, a major step aimed at streamlining pilgrimage procedures. According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, this initiative will allow Maldivian pilgrims to complete immigration requirements for both countries at their departure airport, prior to leaving the Maldives. They stated that this measure will greatly ease the travel experience, enabling pilgrims to proceed directly to their accommodation in Saudi Arabia without delays at Jeddah airport.
The Maldivian Hajj Mission stationed in Saudi Arabia will be responsible for closely monitoring the welfare and logistical arrangements of pilgrims throughout their journey. The mission comprises representatives from the Hajj Corporation, medical personnel, and religious leaders.
Coverage of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage will be broadcast on PSM News. The first group of Maldivian pilgrims is scheduled to depart on May 26.
