President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Aishath Asna Hamdi as Deputy Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The appointment was made following approval from the People’s Majlis, in line with Article 6(3) of Law No. 6/81 (Maldives Monetary Authority Act 1981). Asna officially assumed the position today.

A long-serving professional within the central bank, Asna has held various roles at the MMA over the past 17 years. Prior to her appointment, she was serving as Managing Director of Financial Sector Development.

Asna holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, specialising in Finance, from the University of Nottingham (2014). Her academic background also includes a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) from the University of East London (2007), an Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from the Association of Business Executives, UK (2005), and earlier qualifications in Business Administration from the Association of Business Administration, UK between 2001 and 2003.

In addition to her academic and professional achievements, Asna has received international recognition in her field and has published research papers related to financial sector development.
