Tourist arrivals see strong growth in early 2025

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have seen a steady rise in 2025, with an average of 6,806 visitors entering the country daily, according to the Ministry of Tourism. From January 1 to May 10, 2025, a total of 884,802 tourists visited the island nation, showing an 8.1 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, which saw 818,341 arrivals.

The first 10 days of May alone recorded 54,058 arrivals, reflecting a 17.6 per cent year-on-year growth. During this period, an average of 5,406 tourists arrived each day.

China continues to lead as the top source market, contributing 100,650 visitors. Russia followed with 95,144 arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranked third with 91,690 tourists.

A significant majority of tourists, 70.9 per cent or 626,920 visitors, chose to stay at resorts. Guesthouses welcomed 208,952 tourists, while 26,219 stayed in hotels and 22,129 opted for safari vessels.

To accommodate growing demand, the Maldives currently offers 63,070 operational tourist beds, including 43,313 in resorts and 14,260 in guesthouses.
