Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel is currently on an official visit to the State of Kuwait at the invitation of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya.
During the visit, discussions will focus on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors and further strengthening the longstanding ties between the two nations.
Minister Dr Khaleel is scheduled to meet with Minister Al-Yahya to review the close bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Kuwait. According to the Ministry, the two leaders are expected to explore new avenues for collaboration, particularly in the political, cultural, and economic spheres.
In addition to talks with the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, Minister Dr Khaleel will hold meetings with senior government officials, including the Ministers of Commerce and Industry, Investment, and Finance. These discussions will centre on enhancing trade and investment opportunities, with an emphasis on deepening economic cooperation.
Minister Dr Khaleel is accompanied by Joint Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha and Political Director Fathimath Nasha Ismail.
Kuwait has long served as an important development partner for the Maldives, offering significant support through mechanisms such as the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. Notable initiatives include the expansion of Velana International Airport and a loan facility granted in 2024 for the Small Island Hospital Development Project.
