A 46-year-old man has been arrested in Hulhumalé in connection with an alleged liquor smuggling operation.

According to police, the suspect identified as Mohammed Ushan was apprehended following a tip-off indicating he was transporting liquor in a vehicle.

The car was intercepted last night in front of Amin Avenue Maple in Hulhumalé. Law enforcement authorities reported discovering boxes sealed in black bags in the vehicle’s deck. Upon inspection, a total of 84 bottles of liquor were recovered.

Police confirmed that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.

In a separate but similar incident earlier this month, two Indian nationals were detained on May 9 after being found in possession of liquor bottles inside a four-wheeled vehicle.
