Parliament has approved the appointment of Moosa Rilwan as a Member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom).

The decision was passed during Tuesday’s sitting with 70 members voting in favour.

Rilwan was among the candidates proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former vice president Mohamed Fazeen. The President had submitted a list of 10 nominees to Parliament.

The names were reviewed by the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee, which evaluated the candidates and shortlisted five individuals who scored more than 75 per cent in the assessment. Rilwan was one of the five recommended by the Committee.

Rilwan brings over 16 years of experience in the media sector and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations.
