A digital treasure hunt titled Fenkoe Hunt has been launched as part of the MyHulhumalé’ Festival 2025, commemorating 21 years since the first settlement in Hulhumalé. The initiative is a collaboration between Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and local digital engagement platform TaZa.

The game began on Sunday evening following the festival’s official opening ceremony and will run for a full week. It invites the public to participate in a QR-code-based hunt across Hulhumalé, aimed at promoting community involvement through interactive, tech-based activities.

According to the organisers, 35 QR codes have been hidden in public spaces across the island. Participants are required to register online, locate the codes, and scan them using their mobile devices to collect virtual items. Each item is categorised into one of three tiers - Epic, Legendary, and Mythic - with point values ranging from 20 to 100. A real-time leaderboard will track participants’ progress throughout the week.

Winners will be announced during Beach Fest, scheduled for Saturday, 17 May. The top three participants will receive cash prizes of MVR 7,000 for first place, MVR 4,000 for second, and MVR 2,000 for third.

HDC stated that the activity is intended to engage residents in a fun and inclusive way while showcasing the evolving urban environment of Hulhumalé. This year’s festival programme includes a variety of cultural, recreational, and community-led events, with Fenkoe Hunt being the first large-scale digital component of its kind.
