Preparations are underway for the construction of the causeway linking the islands of Kalaidhoo and Dhanbidhoo in Laamu Atoll, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving inter-island connectivity.

According to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the project involves the design and construction of three 105-metre bridges and a 683-metre causeway, creating a continuous one-kilometre link between the two islands. Once complete, the causeway will significantly ease transportation and access between Kalaidhoo and Dhanbidhoo.

Key machinery has already been mobilised to the site, and the first shipment of spun piles used for bridge foundation works has been delivered. Physical construction is expected to commence shortly.

This project is a key step in boosting mobility and economic integration within the atoll, supporting both community development and service access, MTCC said.
