As in previous years, the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has announced the islands selected to host national-level celebrations for this year’s Eid Al-Adha.

According to the Ministry, the selected islands were chosen from among those that expressed interest and submitted proposals. The final selection was based on the highest points awarded under the official guidelines for national Eid Al-Adha celebrations.

For the 1446 Hijri year, the islands chosen by the Government to host the celebrations are Haa Alifu Kelaa, Kaafu Guraidhoo, and Laamu Gan.

In addition, the Ministry revealed that special festivities tailored for children and families will be held in Hulhumalé.

The Ministry stated that the Government aims to make Eid a vibrant and meaningful celebration that revives Islamic values, preserves Maldivian culture, and strengthens unity among Maldivians. Activities across the selected islands will be organised in line with these objectives.

The Ministry also highlighted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu places great importance on celebrating both Eids with grandeur. The tradition of large-scale Eid celebrations in Malé City was first introduced during his tenure as Mayor of Malé.
