A children’s drawing competition celebrating World Environment Day will take place on June 19 at Rehendhi School in Hulhumalé, organised by the Hulhumalé Community Alliance.

Held under the global theme “Beat plastic pollution,” the event aims to raise awareness about plastic waste while promoting community engagement through creative expression. The exhibition will run from 4 to 6 p.m.

Open to schoolchildren, the competition attracted strong interest, with over 100 submissions received from Rehendhi School’s Environment Club alone before the May 15 deadline.

The top three entries will be awarded prizes, and 12 selected artworks will be featured in the Alliance’s official 2026 calendar.

According to the organisers, this year’s competition is being held at Rehendhi School due to the school’s active involvement in facilitating the event.
