The Department of National Registration (DNR) has officially launched ID card printing and issuance services in Baa Atoll, expanding access to essential identification services for residents of the region.
The service is now available at the Baa Atoll Council and the Secretariat of the Dharavandhoo Council, where ID cards can be printed and issued locally. The DNR stated that this development will bring significant convenience to the people of the atoll by reducing the need to travel elsewhere for such services.
The Government has set a target of making ID card and passport services available on all inhabited islands before the end of the year. According to the DNR, efforts are progressing rapidly, with ID card printing services already operational on 15 islands.
In addition to expanding domestic access, the Government is also working to offer ID card services in foreign countries with large Maldivian populations. Malaysia became the first overseas location to offer this service in April 2025.
