The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has invited interested parties to operate the Animal Care Facility (Olhuhiyaa) in Hulhumale Phase 2 for a year.

According to the notice published in the Gazette, interested parties are invited to submit proposals to run and maintain the shelter in collaboration with the Ministry before the 12th of next month.

The Ministry has also announced the recruitment of a veterinary assistant to work at the shelter.

The Olhuhiyaa facility was brought into operation in February last year by the Malé City Council to address the issue of street cats in the city. However, the Cabinet later decided to transfer the facility’s operations to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

Since taking over operations, the Ministry has brought in several cats to the facility, where they are currently being cared for.
