The Maldives Police Service has announced it is seeking assistance from Malaysian authorities in connection with the ongoing investigation into the fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed on April 18, 2025.
In a press release issued Thursday, police said Yumnu’s family has not cooperated with the investigation, which began after she was airlifted to Malaysia for treatment. Despite the police expressing readiness to question Yumnu with the family’s support, no information has been shared regarding her medical condition or the circumstances of her fall.
Two Maldivian officers, including a medical doctor, were deployed to Malaysia shortly after her transfer. However, police say they have not been granted access to Yumnu or received updates from the hospital. According to the statement, her family later moved her to another hospital without notifying authorities.
Given the lack of cooperation, the Maldives Police Service is now working with Malaysian law enforcement to continue the investigation under Malaysian legal procedures.
