The Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.6 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine during a targeted operation at the airport on 22 May 2025.
The operation was launched based on intelligence reports indicating that an air cargo shipment contained illegal drugs. Customs officers intercepted the package during inspection, and preliminary tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine. The total weight of the package, including its packaging, was 3.6 kg. Authorities estimate the street value of the drugs at approximately MVR 7.2 million.
The narcotics have been handed over to the Maldives Police Service, which is now conducting a criminal investigation to trace the origin of the shipment and identify those involved in the smuggling attempt.
