The Maldives and Malaysia have held discussions aimed at enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting took place between Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and Malaysian Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Held on the sidelines of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025, the discussions centred on shared security concerns and explored opportunities to expand cooperation in the defence sector.

The meeting builds on the momentum established during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia in April 2025, which served as a foundation for strengthened engagement across multiple sectors, including health, economic development, digitalisation, climate change, and international cooperation.
