The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts successfully conducted its two-day Heyluntheri Media programme across several islands of Kaafu Atoll, concluding on Friday.

The initiative was designed to promote media literacy and encourage ethical journalism practices among participants.

A total of 23 individuals completed the programme, including participants from Kaafu Maafushi, Kaafu Gulhi, Kaafu Huraa, Kaafu Dhiffushi, and Kaafu Hinmafushi. The event attracted active involvement from journalists, council employees, and members of various associations.

The programme encompassed a wide range of topics, including journalistic ethics, writing techniques, investigative journalism, and the evolution of media in the Maldives. Participants were also introduced to the complexities of journalism from multiple ideological perspectives.

Sessions were further enriched by the presence of several distinguished figures, including Ashraf Ali, former President of the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy. Representatives from the Broadcasting Commission and the National Counter Terrorism Centre also contributed meaningfully to the discussions. Additionally, respected journalism expert Ahmed Nazeef, well known for his longstanding role in training journalists facilitated several of the sessions.

This follows a similar programme organised by the Ministry last year, which targeted participants from Addu City and Fuvahmulah.
