President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has denied rumors suggesting he will perform Hajj this year under the quota allocated by Saudi Arabia to the Maldives.
While President Dr Muizzu is set to leave for the Hajj pilgrimage, there have been claims that he is performing Hajj this year under the quota allocated by Saudi Arabia to the country.
Speaking during the 7th episode of the Rayyithunnaa Eku podcast, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu dismissed the allegations, clarifying that he is performing Hajj this year upon a special invitation extended by the King of Saudi Arabia.
He clarified that no state funds will be used for his Hajj pilgrimage, adding that his travel arrangements have been made by Saudi Arabia.
Under President Dr Muizzu’s initiative, significant reforms have been introduced to enhance the quality of services provided to Maldivian pilgrims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage.
One of the major developments is the implementation of the Makkah Route Initiative, which allows Maldivian pilgrims to complete immigration, customs, and health procedures at Velana International Airport before departure, greatly easing their entry into Saudi Arabia.
A dedicated Hajj clinic, equipped with emergency services and operated in coordination with Saudi medical teams, is also being established in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the Bank of Maldives has raised the international debit card limit to USD 1,750 to help pilgrims manage their finances more easily during the pilgrimage.
