President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for structural reform within the Scout Association of Maldives, emphasising that the movement’s longstanding service to the nation must now be matched with tangible state support.
The President, who also serves as Chief Scout, described the current practice of moving the Association between unsuitable facilities as unsustainable and a disservice to an organisation that has supported the nation through both everyday service and national crises for nearly 70 years. Reflecting on his personal journey as a Scout during his school years, President Dr Muizzu said the movement had shaped his values and leadership, and that its future must be safeguarded through proper infrastructure and policy backing.
His remarks came during a ceremony at the President’s Office, where he was formally presented with the World Scout Badge by Mohamed Nazeef, President of the Scout Association of Maldives. The occasion also saw seven individuals honoured with the President’s Scout Award and eight others appointed to the Scout Council.
President Dr Muizzu also issued a public tribute via his official X account to mark National Scout Day. In his message, he extended greetings to current and former Scouts and praised their ongoing contributions to building social cohesion and civic responsibility across the Maldives.
