A new 250-bed building is in the pipeline for Hulhumalé Hospital, as authorities push to upgrade the facility into a tertiary-level healthcare institution.

The expansion is part of ongoing efforts to address the growing medical needs of Hulhumalé’s rapidly increasing population.

According to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on the latest episode of Rayyithunnaa Eku, preparations have already been finalised for the construction of the new hospital wing. He described the project as a crucial move to significantly improve access to healthcare for residents.

The President noted that the current hospital remains relatively small for a city of Hulhumalé’s size, necessitating urgent upgrades. He highlighted that the emergency room has already been expanded from seven beds to 14, and additional services such as dialysis are also being enhanced, with plans to complete the upgrades by the end of July.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated that strengthening Hulhumalé Hospital remains a high priority for the Government, positioning the new 250-bed facility as a cornerstone of this healthcare transformation.
