The Special Presidential Commission investigating the fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from a building in Malé on April 18, 2025, has announced that it expects to submit its final report to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu within the next two weeks.
The update was shared via a post on X on Sunday.
The three-member commission was established on April 27 by Presidential Decree following public concern over the police’s handling of the case. It has been granted broad powers to carry out its inquiry, including the ability to summon individuals, obtain evidence, seek judicial orders, and collaborate with both State institutions and foreign experts.
As part of its investigation, the Commission has visited the scene of the incident and held meetings with staff from relevant agencies. It also met with Raudh Ahmed Zilal, the individual who was last seen with Yumnu on the night of the incident.
To encourage public cooperation, the Commission established a portal and invited individuals to submit any information that may assist the inquiry.
At its first press conference, Commission President Dr Mohamed Munavvar assured the public that the investigation would be impartial and transparent. He stated that no external influence would be allowed to affect the work of the Commission.
