Restoration efforts are ongoing following a major power outage in the Greater Malé Region, with electricity supply to critical services remaining unaffected.

The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) reported the disruption at 12:47 p.m. on Sunday.

Power has been restored to essential facilities, including Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Dharumavantha Hospital. Backup generators are currently in use at Hulhumalé Hospital and the Maldives Blood Services (MBS), ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.

STELCO stated that system checks are being completed before re-energising the Greater Malé grid. Once these checks are finalised, generator sets in Malé and Hulhumalé will be activated to restore power.

The Maldives Police Service has launched a special investigation into the cause of the outage. STELCO is expected to provide further updates as restoration progresses.
