Applications are now open for the 'Practice Parliament for Women 2025' programme, which aims to equip women with the knowledge and skills needed to participate effectively in parliamentary and democratic processes.

Scheduled to take place from July 5 to 12, 2025 in Malé City, the programme is conducted in partnership with UNDP Maldives, the People’s Majlis, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, and supported by Australian Aid.

Women aged 25 and above residing in the Maldives are eligible to apply. The organisers have encouraged women from diverse backgrounds to take part, with reserved seats for persons with disabilities. Travel support will be provided for participants travelling from outside the Greater Malé Region.

The UNDP stated that applicants will be selected in batches, with 40 participants accepted per round. In addition to interest in the programme, prior involvement in political parties, Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), NGOs, or community-based initiatives will be considered in the selection process.

Launched in 2021, the 'Practice Parliament for Women' is part of an annual series that aims to promote inclusive governance by enhancing women's participation in democratic systems. The programme is designed to build the confidence, capacity, and practical experience needed for women to contest in elections and take on leadership roles in their communities.

The deadline to submit applications is June 10, 2024. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early by completing the application form provided by UNDP.
