Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) has been awarded the contract to complete The Gardens housing project in Hulhumalé, following prolonged delays by the original developer, Jaah Investments Private Limited.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) confirmed that RCC was contracted to ensure the timely completion of the project after Jaah Investments repeatedly failed to meet construction deadlines. In January this year, HDC issued a final notice to the company, stating that if the outstanding work was not completed within 45 days, the agreement would be terminated and the project reassigned.
After the notice period expired without sufficient progress, the agreement was officially terminated. HDC stated that the decision was made in the best interests of the apartment buyers, with the aim of handing over the units as soon as possible. The corporation also announced it would soon share updated timelines and further details with all flat buyers.
In response, Jaah Investments filed a case in the Civil Court challenging the termination and requested a temporary order to prevent HDC from taking over the site. However, the court denied the request.
The Gardens, a luxury housing project launched in 2017, comprises 83 apartments, including both two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.
