The Maldives recorded a 6.4 per cent increase in international airline traffic during the first four months of 2025, according to the latest monthly statistics from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), reflecting sustained momentum in the country's tourism sector.

From January to April this year, 5,809 scheduled international flights arrived in the Maldives, an increase from 5,378 during the same period in 2024. The rise in air traffic comes as the nation welcomed over 800,000 tourists in the first four months of the year, compared to 700,000 visitors during the same period last year.

While scheduled flights saw a notable increase, general aviation traffic, non-scheduled or charter flights, dipped slightly to 555, down from 604 in the previous year.

The growth in arrivals has also been supported by a modest rise in the country’s tourism infrastructure. The total operational bed capacity reached 61,919, marking a 0.8 per cent increase year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which manages Velana International Airport, has reported a significant boost in revenue. According to its audit report, MACL earned MVR 1 billion in profit last year, an 18 per cent increase from the previous year, amounting to a gain of approximately MVR 192 million.
