The Malé City Council has announced a temporary ban on all vehicular traffic during the evening of Eid al-Adha.

According to an official notice, vehicles will be prohibited from using any roads within these cities between 16:00 and 18:00 on the day of Eid.

To facilitate emergency services, the council’s Public Services Department will issue special permits in the form of stickers. These will be distributed on Fridays between 08:30 and 10:30 in the morning, and again from 14:00 to 15:45 in the afternoon. The council has emphasised that legal action will be pursued against any individuals found driving without the necessary authorisation during the restricted hours.

Tomorrow marks this year’s Hajj day, while the first day of Eid al-Adha will be observed next Friday.

In a nationwide initiative, the Government has decided to celebrate Eid al-Adha at the national level, with 65 islands across the Maldives set to be adorned with festive lights.
