The Maldives has welcomed 979,958 tourists so far in 2025, representing an 8.4 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
As of June 3, 2025, the daily tourist arrival count for the month stood at 13,600, reflecting an 18 per cent increase compared to the same date in June 2024.
February recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals this year with 214,863 visitors, followed by January with 214,091 and April with 203,468. In terms of daily averages, February also led with 7,646 tourists per day, followed by January at 6,931, March at 6,563, and April at 6,611. As the country moves into the off-peak season, average daily arrivals declined to 4,375 in May and 4,533 in early June.
Accommodation trends continue to be led by resorts, which hosted 71.6 per cent of all tourists, amounting to 701,764 visitors. Guesthouses followed with 23.0 per cent, receiving 225,539 tourists, while hotels and safari vessels attracted 2.9 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively, accounting for 28,298 and 23,679 visitors.
In terms of source markets, China currently leads with a 12 per cent market share, totalling 177,874 tourist arrivals. Russia follows with 11 per cent or 107,518 arrivals, while the United Kingdom (UK) accounts for 10.2 per cent with 99,671 tourists. This marks a notable shift from 2024, when the UK ranked second and Russia placed third, while China maintained its top position.
To support its ambitious target of 2.3 million tourist arrivals this year, the Government has ramped up promotional activities in key markets. Most recently, Visit Maldives launched campaigns in major cities across Germany and Switzerland in an effort to attract more European visitors in the months ahead.
