On the sacred occasion of Eid al-Adha 1446 AH, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the Maldives and the wider Islamic Ummah.
In his Eid message, the President described Eid al-Adha as one of the holiest celebrations in the Islamic calendar, noting that it symbolises faith, sacrifice, and togetherness. He observed that generations of Maldivians and Muslims globally have commemorated the festival as a time of divine blessings and spiritual growth.
He expressed hope that, as the sacred days of Hajj came to a close, believers would receive the full reward of their devotions. He also prayed for Allah’s mercy and grace to be bestowed upon the global Muslim community and the Maldivian nation in particular.
President Dr Muizzu reflected on the meaning of verse 110 from Surah Al-Imran, which describes the Islamic Ummah as the best community raised for mankind. He noted that this recognition is earned through a commitment to righteousness, the promotion of good, and the rejection of evil, adding that the moral leadership of the Ummah depends on ethical conduct and shared responsibility.
Addressing the spirit of Eid, the President emphasised the values of brotherhood and equality. He pointed out that the festival brings together Muslims from all walks of life who gather in worship, dressed in their finest, and united in prayer. He noted that the communal recitation of the Takbeer serves as a reminder of the strength found in unity and shared faith. The celebratory atmosphere, he said, is further reflected in acts of goodwill such as greetings and gestures of reconciliation.
Citing the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), President Muizzu observed that the Prophet likened the Muslim community to a solid structure held together by mutual support. He said this analogy was especially relevant on Eid, a time when believers are encouraged to remember those in hardship. He made particular mention of the Palestinian people, stating that their ongoing struggle and resilience continue to be in the hearts and prayers of Muslims worldwide. He expressed hope that they would be granted protection, sustenance, and peace, particularly in their efforts to defend the sanctity of Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa and the blessed land of Palestine.
The President also used the occasion to encourage citizens to reflect on the social and familial responsibilities associated with Eid. He urged Maldivians to honour their parents, strengthen family relationships, and extend kindness to their neighbours and communities. He described these actions as the true essence of Eid, symbols of virtue, wisdom, and unity that contribute to a more compassionate society.
Concluding his message, President Dr Muizzu expressed his hope that Eid al-Adha 1446 AH would be observed with peace, gratitude, and divine blessings throughout the Maldives and the broader Islamic world. He prayed that the Almighty would continue to guide the nation towards prosperity, social harmony, and a future shaped by grace and righteousness.
