The national carrier, Maldivian, has announced that its fifth ATR aircraft is on its way to the Maldives as part of ongoing efforts to modernise its fleet and strengthen domestic air services.

Until recently, Maldivian primarily operated its domestic routes using Dash aircraft. However, due to increasing difficulties in sourcing spare parts for the Dash fleet, the airline has begun transitioning to ATR models.

So far, four ATR aircraft have joined the national airline’s fleet. The aircraft are known for their fuel efficiency, reliability, and comfort, making them well suited for short-haul operations within the Maldives.

The latest ATR aircraft commenced its journey from Toulouse, France. According to the airline, the flight will make three scheduled stops. On Friday, the airline confirmed that the aircraft had departed from Hurghada, Egypt, and was en route to Muscat, Oman.

The delivery flight is being operated by Maldivian personnel, including Captain Abdulla Nafiz, Captain Ali Yanish, and Engineer Waiz Mohamed.

This year has seen several milestones for the national carrier. In addition to expanding its ATR fleet, Maldivian introduced its first wide-body aircraft and launched services to three Chinese cities. The airline has also expanded regional operations from Hanimadhoo and Bangalore, India.
