MET forecasts nationwide adverse weather for next 24 hours

MET issues weather advisory
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast adverse weather conditions across the country for the next 24 hours, warning of intensified southwest monsoon activity.
A white alert has been issued from Haa Alifu Atoll to Meemu Atoll, in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, due to worsening weather conditions. Winds are expected to range between 19 and 24 miles per hour, with rough seas likely across affected regions.
In the past 24 hours, the highest recorded rainfall was observed in Seenu Hulhumeedhoo, which received 17.5mm of rain.
The MET Office has also warned of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several areas. In the northern and central regions, winds will be west to north-westerly at 13 to 23 miles per hour, while in other areas they will shift west to south-westerly at 10 to 20 miles per hour. Wind gusts may reach up to 40 miles per hour during showers.
Seas are expected to be rough throughout the country, particularly in the north, with wave heights between 4 and 7 feet.
According to the MET Office, weather conditions are expected to improve in the southern region after Saturday, while unsettled conditions are likely to persist in the northern and central regions over the next three days.
