Ibrahim Athif Shakoor has been appointed strategic consultant to Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO).

The appointment was confirmed this week, with Athif expected to advise on key reforms aimed at improving operational performance and ensuring long-term profitability. With a strong background in the fisheries sector, he brings considerable institutional knowledge to the role. He previously held several senior positions at MIFCO, including managing director, chief executive officer and deputy CEO.

His return to the company comes as the Government steps up efforts to promote transparency and efficiency across the fisheries industry. A series of reforms are under way to curb corruption and improve service delivery within MIFCO, a company considered critical to the Maldivian economy.

Athif’s appointment follows recent changes in MIFCO’s senior leadership. Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer was appointed managing director and CEO in March, succeeding Dr Vitaly Lyubimov, a Swiss national who was dismissed in March 2025.
