The Government is closely monitoring the safety and whereabouts of its citizens in the Middle East, following a sharp escalation in regional conflict, Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has confirmed.
Tensions have intensified in the past week with a series of attacks between Iran and Israel. The conflict reached a critical point when the United States, a key ally of Israel, launched strikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran, prompting Iran to retaliate with an attack on the US military base at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
In response, several airspaces across the Middle East were temporarily closed.
In a post shared on X, Minister Dr Khaleel stated that the Foreign Ministry and Maldivian diplomatic missions are actively monitoring the evolving situation and the condition of Maldivian nationals in the region.
He also urged Maldivians living in or travelling through affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the guidance of local authorities.
While airspace closures disrupted travel on Monday, authorities have since reopened affected air routes.
