President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the monthly allowance for Huffaz will be doubled starting July 1, 2025, fulfilling a key pledge from his presidential campaign.

The decision was approved at this week’s Cabinet meeting and shared by the President in a post on his official X account.

President Dr Muizzu underscored the importance of recognising and supporting Huffaz, saying it is vital to deepening public love for the Holy Quran. The increased allowance is aimed at encouraging more individuals to undertake Quran memorisation and sustain the tradition.

So far this year, 24 individuals have received Huffaz certification—the highest number recorded in a single year. The Government plans to increase that number to 100 annually, with a five-year goal of reaching 1,000 certifications.

To support long-term Quranic education, the Government is also working to establish waqf structures to provide sustainable funding for related programmes. The initiative forms part of a national strategy to improve Quranic understanding and recitation.

A graduation ceremony for Huffaz was introduced this year, with the first held on March 26, the 27th night of Ramadan.
