The Maldives has recorded over 1.07 million tourist arrivals as of June 23, 2025, reflecting a 9.1 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

In June alone, 108,345 tourists visited the country, marking a 16.4 per cent rise year-on-year. The peak months for arrivals so far have been January, February, and March, with February recording the highest daily average at 7,646 visitors. As expected during the off-season, May saw a lower daily average of 4,375, but June has shown an improvement with a current daily average of 4,711.

Resorts remained the most popular choice among tourists, accounting for 775,125 arrivals. Guesthouses followed with 243,883, while hotels recorded 30,103 and safari vessels 24,771. Other registered tourist facilities saw 822 arrivals.

China continues to lead the Maldives’ source markets, maintaining the top position with a 12.4 per cent market share, similar to 2024. Russia has overtaken the United Kingdom to claim the second spot with 11.4 per cent, while the UK follows with 9.9 per cent. Italy and Germany have also exchanged places, with Italy now contributing 8.0 per cent and Germany 7.5 per cent of total arrivals.

This week also saw a temporary disruption to flight routes, as Qatar closed its airspace on Monday in anticipation of retaliatory strikes by Iran targeting a US airbase near Doha. The closure was lifted in the early hours of Tuesday. With Doha serving as a key transit hub for travellers to the Maldives, the impact of the disruption is expected to be reflected in upcoming tourism reports.
