President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to boost tourism development across several atolls in the Maldives which have minimal resort developments, reaffirming a key pledge from his presidential manifesto.

In a post on X, the President stated that the Government will prioritise unlocking the tourism potential of Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Thaa, Laamu, and Addu City. The initiative aims to attract investment and stimulate economic activity in these regions.

The development strategy includes targeted concessions, investor incentives, improvements to public infrastructure, and dedicated marketing efforts, the President highlighted. He emphasised that the Maldives is ready to embark on a new chapter of tourism, supported by ongoing enhancements to public transport connectivity.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment is expected to release further details in the coming week.
