The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested an individual for attempting to smuggle drugs into Gaafu Alif Kolamaafushi.

According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Shifaullah Saeed, 44 years old, from Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi, was arrested on the 25th of this month during an operation based on a tip-off received by police intelligence.

Police revealed that the suspect was stopped and searched upon arrival in Kolamaafushi via an RTL ferry, during which officers seized a packet containing substances suspected to be drugs.

Police stated that the suspect sustained knee injuries while attempting to flee from officers on a bicycle.

Police arrested him on the spot, and he has now been remanded in custody for eleven days.
