Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef took part in the opening segment of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), in Seville, Spain, bringing together world leaders to address pressing global financing challenges.

The three-day summit which began on June 30, hosted by the United Nations, launched with formal proceedings including the appointment of the Spanish Prime Minister as President of the Conference. Opening remarks were delivered by senior officials from key UN agencies, setting the tone for an event focused on reshaping international financial systems to better serve sustainable development.

During the General Debate, heads of delegation from around the world, including Vice President Latheef, began presenting their countries’ experiences, priorities, and policy directions in mobilising financial resources for development. The Maldives is expected to highlight its efforts in securing climate financing, building economic resilience, and engaging in international financial reform.

In the days ahead, the Vice President is scheduled to participate in thematic roundtables and side events that will tackle issues such as development cooperation, fair debt frameworks, and equity in financial governance.

Held from June 30 to July 3, the FfD4 summit marks a crucial opportunity for small island developing states like the Maldives to push for greater support and representation in shaping global financial strategies.
