Maldives–Singapore Business Forum marks 50 years of ties, draws over 200 investors

More than 200 investors gathered in Singapore this morning for the Maldives–Singapore Business Forum, a high-level event aimed at showcasing investment and business opportunities in the Maldives to international stakeholders.

The forum was held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, senior Government ministers, and prominent business leaders from both countries were in attendance.

Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu Hai Yien, attended as a special guest and delivered keynote remarks. The forum also served as a platform to brief investors on major government-led projects and sectoral development plans.

Key investment opportunities presented at the forum included:

  • Cancer hospital development
  • Development of Ras Malé
  • Expansion opportunities in the tourism sector
  • Gulhi Falhu development project
  • Health system digitalisation
  • Laamu Atoll port and bunkering project
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
  • Relocation of Malé Commercial Port to Thilafushi
  • Renewable energy initiatives
  • Specialised higher education projects
  • Sports fishing port project
  • World-class theme park project
  • Yacht marina development in Uligamu

To mark the occasion, President Dr Muizzu presented commemorative plaques recognising the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The forum is part of a series of international investment roadshows organised by the Maldives, with similar events previously held in China, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and India. These forums aim to attract foreign direct investment and promote the Maldives as a viable destination for sustainable economic growth.
