President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed have concluded their state visit to Singapore and returned to Malé.

The visit marked a key step in enhancing diplomatic and economic ties, laying the groundwork for deeper collaboration and future partnerships between the Maldives and Singapore.

During the trip, President Dr Muizzu met with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, and several Memoranda of Understanding were signed in areas such as capacity-building, education, environmental cooperation, and collaboration with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.

Among the highlights of the visit were two major agreements: one with Henley & Partners to introduce a residency-by-investment programme, and another with APM SPV Private Limited for Project Solar City, which is set to become the Maldives’ first Special Economic Zone.

At the Maldives-Singapore Business Forum, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the contributions of individuals and companies advancing commercial ties. He also promoted investment prospects aligned with the Government’s Vision 2040 roadmap.

To commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore, President Dr Muizzu presented a commemorative book to President Shanmugaratnam. In a symbolic gesture, both leaders also unveiled stamps marking the milestone anniversary.

The President and First Lady also engaged with the local Maldivian community in Singapore and toured several key institutions, including the Institute of Technical Education, Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), Tuas Port, the Peranakan Museum, and the Singapore Food Agency.

Before departing, President Dr Muizzu stated on his official X account that the visit, coinciding with 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic ties, had opened a new chapter in Maldives-Singapore relations. He also expressed gratitude to President Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Wong, and the government and people of Singapore for their hospitality.
