President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the significant contribution of writers to the nation’s progress, noting that responsible expression plays a key role in safeguarding unity and stability.
In his address on the occasion of National Writers’ Day, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged the far-reaching influence of writers, highlighting their contributions across all sectors of society.
The President noted that while writers possess the power to build a nation through their ideas, they also hold the equal potential to undermine its unity and stability. Highlighting the profound national responsibility they carry, he stressed that the power of their words can shape public opinion and significantly influence the country’s cohesion and development, urging writers to use this influence wisely.
In a post shared on X to mark the occasion, President Dr Muizzu expressed gratitude to Maldivian writers for their continued efforts in preserving and promoting the Dhivehi language and culture. He noted that their contributions play a vital role in enriching the Maldivian identity.
National Writers’ Day is observed annually on July 8, with this year’s theme urging writers to lead with words that build, inspire, and serve the nation.
