The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has engaged with stakeholders to provide updates on the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), as part of preparations for its official opening.

The meeting was held yesterday at Hulhule Island Hotel and was attended by MACL's CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with members of the Executive Committee.

Stakeholders present included representatives from the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA), Directorate of Aviation Security Administration (DASA), Aviation Security Command (AVSEC), Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Immigration, Plant and Animal Quarantine, Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), Port Health, Maldives Police Service, and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). Also in attendance were the Airline Committee Chair, Maldives National Air Traffic Service (MNETS), various MACL departments, and ORAT consultant Modalis.

In his closing remarks, Shareef highlighted that tourism contributes significantly to the Maldives’ GDP and noted that limitations in terminal space and facilities have placed strain on the industry.

He emphasised that the VIA terminal project is of national importance and requires a collective effort to ensure its successful completion.

He also expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their strong support in preparing for the terminal’s opening on July 26.
