A 65-year-old man has died after sustaining serious injuries while asleep in Alif Alif Maalhos, the Maldives Police Service has confirmed.

The victim, identified as Abdul Rahman Adam of Orchidmaage, was taken to the Maalhos Health Centre following the incident, which was reported around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday.

He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Police have not disclosed further details. A special investigative team is travelling to the island as part of the ongoing probe.
