The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced plans to accelerate the establishment of Islamic libraries across the country, as part of a national initiative to promote religious education and strengthen mosque-based learning.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, during the official opening of the Islamic Library at King Salman Mosque in Malé. Located on the mosque’s third floor, the facility has been upgraded to provide a modern environment, and now houses more than 15,000 Islamic studies books.

The event was officiated by the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim. It marks the start of a broader rollout of Islamic libraries, with new facilities planned across Maldives.

As part of the initiative, the Government confirmed that 60,000 books will be donated by a foreign partner. Plans are also underway to introduce dedicated sections, including areas focused on children’s literature and Islamic finance.
