The Government has intensified efforts to establish Islamic libraries across the country, positioning the initiative as a key component of its cultural revival and religious education agenda.

The latest development saw the inauguration of a modern Islamic library on the third floor of King Salman Mosque in Malé. The facility, which houses more than 15,000 books, was formally opened by the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim. The refurbished library has been designed to provide a modern and welcoming space for users and forms part of a broader national programme to expand access to religious literature and learning.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Adam Naseer highlighted the Government’s commitment to reviving the country’s cultural identity through initiatives rooted in Islamic values. He noted that the construction of Islamic libraries aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision to foster a culturally enriched and spiritually grounded society.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed that libraries are being developed in several locations, across Maldives. These facilities will serve as local hubs for mosque-based learning and religious engagement. The libraries are also expected to include dedicated areas for children’s literature and Islamic finance, catering to the diverse needs of the community.
