A man has been arrested in the capital for the possession of a significant quantity of what is suspected to be narcotics, as part of a targeted anti-drug operation led by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The arrest was made on July 10, during a joint operation conducted by the MPS Drug Enforcement Department and the Intelligence Division. The 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody following a raid on a residence believed to be associated with him.

During the operation, authorities recovered approximately 214 grams of substances. In addition, over MVR 16,800 in cash suspected to be proceeds from criminal activity was confiscated from the premises.

The individual was presented before the Criminal Court, which ordered his remand in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.
