The Maldives Police Service has launched a criminal investigation into the death of a 65-year-old man who was fatally assaulted in Alifu Alifu Maalhos. The incident has prompted enhanced security measures, including the monitoring of individuals travelling to and from the island.

The victim, Abdul Rahman Adam, was discovered with critical head injuries around 1:50 a.m. He was transported to the island’s health centre for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 a.m.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the assault occurred while the victim was asleep in his home. He had been residing with his wife, with the couple reportedly sleeping in separate rooms on the night of the incident. Witness accounts indicate the attack was particularly violent, with injuries to the head causing significant trauma.

Police officials have confirmed that a specialised investigative team has been deployed to Maalhos, with all individuals arriving on and departing from the island being closely monitored as part of the ongoing investigation.
