A man accused in connection with 12 scam cases has been taken into custody with the assistance of members of the public, according to local law enforcement authorities.

The suspect, Saaif Ahmed Didi, aged 30 was apprehended by the Local Police Service in Hulhumalé Phase 2 yesterday. His arrest was carried out in accordance with a court-issued warrant and was made possible through cooperation from members of the community.

On several occasions, he allegedly engaged in fraudulent activity through various social media platforms. He is accused of unlawfully depositing over MVR 30,000 into his personal account and subsequently withdrawing the funds.

The suspect also has a prior criminal record, which includes cases related to property damage and theft.

Following his arrest, Saaif was brought before a local court, which ordered that he be remanded in judicial custody for a period of ten days. The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by the Anti-Scam Centre.
