The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) and the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening community resilience and awareness in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

The agreement was signed by State Minister for Tourism and Environment, Ibrahim Mimrah, and Secretary General of MRC, Fathimath Himya, at a ceremony held on July 13. The partnership is part of ongoing national efforts to build a more informed and prepared society in the face of increasing environmental threats.

Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate on a range of activities, including community-based weather monitoring, the improvement of early warning systems, and the delivery of humanitarian-focused training for meteorological staff. MRC volunteers will also play an active role in outreach and awareness campaigns at the community level.

The initiative aims to bridge the gap between scientific forecasting and community action, ensuring that critical weather information is accessible and actionable.
