A total of 21 people have been provided with temporary shelter following a fire that broke out in Hulhumalé Phase 1 earlier today.

The fire, which occurred in the afternoon, severely damaged a significant portion of the apartment where it originated. Nearby residences were also affected as the flames spread to adjacent units.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), four apartments sustained damage as a result of the blaze. The displaced individuals, including migrant workers, are currently receiving temporary accommodation arranged by the authorities.

The apartment where the fire began had previously been affected by fire incidents on two separate occasions. It is understood that the building was primarily occupied by migrant labourers.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and are working to ensure the safety and welfare of those impacted.
