Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced exclusive discounts on purchases made using its Student Debit Card at point-of-sale (POS) terminals across selected retailers.

According to BML, students can receive discounts of up to 10 per cent at selected shops, restaurants, and bookstores. A full list of participating merchants is available on the BML offers portal.

The Student Debit Card, introduced in May 2025, is available to children aged 7 to 17. It is issued as a Visa Debit Card and can be used for transactions in the Maldives and abroad. The card carries no annual or service fees.

Two card designs are available based on age groups: one for children aged 7 to 12, and another for those aged 13 to 17. Parents or guardians must apply for the card using the BML Mobile Banking App.

For foreign currency transactions, a standard monthly limit of USD 100 applies. This limit can be increased to USD 1,200 for students studying overseas, upon submission of the required documentation.

Additionally, the card offers a 0.5 per cent annual rebate on total spending, which is credited to the child’s savings account at the end of the year.

BML has stated that the Student Debit Card is designed to introduce children to financial responsibility and support learning through parental oversight.
